Echeveria prolifica is a small succulent that forms rosettes of light glaucous green leaves that can get flushes of pink when grown in bright sun. It offsets abundantly and spreads by stolons to form a dense low clump. The rosettes grow up to 8 cm in diameter.

In early spring and sometimes until summer, the stout bell-shaped flowers (unique in the genus) with yellow petals appear held in compact clusters at the end of decumbent, up to 25 cm long stalks with easily detached bracts that fall off and root easily to form new plants.
