Salvia plants are typically aromatic, perennial herbs, shrubs, or subshrubs. They belong to the largest genus of plants in the Lamiaceae family and are part of the Mentheae tribe within the Nepetoideae subfamily. These plants have simple or compound leaves arranged oppositely along their square stems. Their flowers are typically tubular, with two lips and only two stamens.
