Description

Aporocactus flagelliformis is a trailing cactus with cylindrical stems, each with clusters of bristle-like spines. The stems, which range from green to grey-green, start growing upward but eventually lie flat or hang down as they mature, branching profusely from the base. Each whitish areole bears 15 to 20 reddish-brown to reddish-yellow spines.

Traditionally, the juice from the plant is believed to treat intestinal worms.

The juice is acrid and caustic, and its use is considered potentially dangerous. 

 

Other Uses

In addition to medicinal uses, the plant is also valued for its ornamental qualities and is relatively low-maintenance. It is also sometimes referred to as the Golden Rat Tail Cactus and is known for its calming effect on the mind.
