The Huernia hystrix plant is a succulent with pale to dark green stems. The stems have 5-angled shapes with spaced, swollen tubercles along the ridges. These tubercles have sharp conical teeth that point outward, giving the plant a unique and eye-catching appearance. Additionally, the plant produces clusters of 2 to 5 flowers on long stalks that emerge from the axils of the tubercles in the lower parts of the stems.
