Stapelia

Stapelia is a genus of low-growing, multi-stem succulent plants in South Africa. Commonly referred to as African starfish flowers or carrion flowers, these plants possess distinctive features that set them apart in the botanical world. Most species within this genus produce flowers covered in hairs and emit a scent reminiscent of decaying flesh when they bloom. This unique combination of hairy textures and specific colouration mimics the appearance of rotting animal matter, effectively attracting flies and other pollinators to facilitate reproduction.
