Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a genus containing approximately 125 tropical, succulent plants that belong to the stonecrop family Crassulaceae. They are mainly found in Madagascar and tropical Africa. Most of these plants are perennial herbaceous or shrubs, but a few are annual or biennial. While the largest species, Kalanchoe beharensis from Madagascar, can grow over 1 meter under the right conditions, most species are less than 1 meter tall.

The flowers open up by growing new cells on the inner surface of the petals, which forces them outwards, and on the outside of the petals, which closes them. The flowers are divided into four sections, with eight stamens.
